A friend of mine is a huge music fan and he recommended this blog to me. It is called Sound Stand and I think its pretty new, but it gives a really good insight into really good music. Anything from indie and pop to electro and hiphop. Most recently they talked about Lianna la Havas and New Look. I have never heard of these guys before but I have now got them on my iPod.
So if you are looking to increase your musical repertoire but are not sure how, check it out Sound Stand – the music blog

I have recently been a bit bored at work and to ease this a bit I have been going on blogs. My favourite are normally the lifestyle blogs because there is an interesting variety of stuff on their. This includes anything from fashion and design to food and books.
My favourite at the moment is Tomorrow Style. There is a definite knowledge of the arts on this blog and it is very engaging yet not too intellectual to be out of my comfort zone.
Recent posts included a brief history of the Art Nouveau Style and a piece on Amy Winehouse’s famous white dress from “Back to Black” being auctioned off!
Take a look!

I have been charged with the task of researching ideas for our new study. This is all good and well and you would think there would be millions of great interior design ideas out there on the internet… wouldn’t you? I have however found that many of the design blogs out there, while very pretty, are founded by women who may have gone a bit overboard with the colour and the prints. Apparently the motto less is more has been left by the wayside…. if I decorate my study like this I will be a laughing stock:

Luckily, I have found a great interior design page which has an idea for everyone and I have put together what I think is a final plan for my study! If you feel the same and need a push in the right direction: Here it is – You’re welcome!

Having come all the way to Europe from the U.S, my girlfriend and I didn’t want to miss out on all the cultural opportunities that this continent has to offer. So, we decided to take a trip to Madrid in Spain after leaving London. We found some low cost and reliable late-rooms in Madrid.
The best parts of the trip for me were the really traditionally spanish experiences:
1. Flamenco dancing
If you go to Spain, particularly to Madrid, you have to see the Flamenco dancing. It is uplifting and empowering, so passionate. It is also incredibly entertaining and fun to watch.

2. Taste those Montecados cookies.
These were made by the nuns of Convento de las Carboneras in Madrid and they simply melt in your mouth. Buttery, almondy perfection is the only way I can describe them!
3. Visit the beautiful Jardin Botanico
This huge park has a gloriuos display of spanish flowers, plants and foliage. It is a fantastic location for a romantic walk, or picnic.

We also went to a lovely Bed and Breakfast in Madrid for afternoon tea, they had a beautiful garden and it was nice getting away from the hotel and mixing with the locals who ran the bed and breakfast. If I went back, I would definitely stay at a Bed and breakfast, as they are much better value and you can really immerse yourself in the culture. There is a great choice of bed and breakfasts here.
Overall, it was a great trip and it has definitely made me want to come back to Spain to find out more about the diverse and rich culture. The food… was ridiculously good. I thought I loved italian, but now I realise I was missing out all these years.

Having just been to London for 5 days, I can confirm that it very much lived up to its glorious reputation. Of course it was pretty cold, but blue skies most days and the BUZZ and the vibrancy of England’s famous capital city are breathtaking.
There is just so much to do and see. I mean the Royal Family is a unique entity in itself – and all the palaces and traditions that go with them allow for quite a decadent selection of museums, galleries, monuments and buildings so admirable that the short history of the USA cannot compete.
We went to see Billy Elliot in the west end and I genuinely expected it to be a bit girly and over the top but it was just as moving and heart-wrenching as the movie. I would definitely recommend the west end. It has a range of both well known plays and musicals but also lesser known more contemporary plays.

If you are a foodie and you haven’t been to London – go! It’s a veritable hotpot of different cuisines and many of the restaurants have a very authentic standard of cuisine. From sushi in Soho and French Fusion in Mayfair to Dim sum in China Town and curry in Southall – there is something for everyone.
